Spaces that give people a place to gather and a reason to leave the home office behind.

Wellesley Gateway | Wellesley, MA

The ownership behind this property wanted to improve its shared spaces and amenity areas. In recent years, many landlords have been improving and expanding their amenity spaces in an effort to court tenants who are reevaluating their spatial needs in the era of hybrid work. In service of that goal VCA focused on three areas: the entry lobby, the food hall, and the fitness center.

The biophilic displays in the lobby use a variety of earthen tones to introduce color in such a way that feels like a natural extension of the wooden slats in the entry way. The carved archway of the food hall frames the vibrancy of the vendor area around the black paint of the wall; once again using color (though the contrast rather than the congruence) to attract attention and assist in wayfinding. The fitness center is one of the most encompassing VCA has designed to date, including free weights, machines, cardio equipment, as well as a class studio. These spaces give people a place to gather, certainly, but more than that they give people a reason to leave the home office behind.
